Materials:
- Container
- Scale
- Wick – size depends on the container size. If more than 4″ wide, you will need 2 wicks
- Wick Sticker
- Wick Stabilizer (or Popsicle Stick)
- Wax Melting Pot
- Pot for hot water
- Thermometer
- Fragrance measuring cup (small cylinder)
- Soy Wax Flakes – enough to fill your container twice
- Color block (optional)
- Fragrance Oil – 10% of the weight of your flakes in ounces
- Example – if you weigh out 23.6 ounces of wax, you need 2.36 ounces of Fragrance Oil
Directions:
- Heat oven to 170 Degrees – this is the warming setting
- Place cookie sheet inside over for containers to warm on
- Start heating water in pot – set burner to medium heat
- Weigh out wax
- Place melting pot on scale and zero out
- Scoop wax with container
- You’ll do two full scoops of wax flakes
- Write down the weight in ounces so you remember
- Wipe out container with paper towel and place inside oven on cookie sheet
- Place Melting Pot full of wax in the pot of hot water
- Add thermometer and monitor heat
- Measure wax color – 1 block will color a full pound (16 ounces) of wax
- Color variation is completely subjective – more color = stronger/deeper final product
- Measure Fragrance – you need 10% of the weight of the wax flakes in ounces of fragrance
- At 185 Degrees F, add the color and stir
- When color is completely melted, remove melting pot from heat and stir/monitor
- At 175 Degrees F, add fragrance and stir
- Continue to Monitor heat and stir every 5 minutes or so to keep the fragrance from settling
- While wax is cooling, place wick sticker on bottom of chosen wick(s) and stage in another room for wax pour
- At 135 Degrees F, pull container from oven and place in the room where you plan to let your candle set
- Remove the paper from the wick sticker and place your wick(s) on the bottom of your container
- Use a knife to apply pressure without burning your hand
- Use Wick Stabilizer or Popsicle stick and tape to hold the wick in place
- At 125-130 Degrees F, do a final stir of the wax, remove the spoon and pour wax into container
- Wipe out the Melting Pot with a paper towel
- Allow candle to set for a full 4 hours before picking up/moving
- Trim wick to 1/4″ height
